After teasing us about its next flagship killer for months, OnePlus today announced that it would unveil the OnePlus 2 on July 27. Just like how everything is unusual with the company, even the launch event would be different. OnePlus 2 will be the first smartphone to be unveiled via virtual reality.
The OnePlus 2 will be unveiled at 7PM Pacific Time on July 27, which would mean 7:30 AM on July 28 Indian Standard Time. OnePlus has even made its own cardboard VR headset, which it will start selling for free but it seems consumers will have to pay for shipping.
Earlier this month, OnePlus revealed that the OnePlus 2 will run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 chipset, which the two companies had worked upon to minimize the heating issues that was experienced in other smartphones running the chipset. It followed it up by revealing the OnePlus 2 would be the first smartphone with a USB Type-C connector. In fact, co-founder Carl Pei even demonstrated how he is charging his MacBook with the phone’s USB Type-C charging cable.
Rumors suggest that the OnePlus 2 will have 3GB of RAM and could have a 16-megapixel rear, 5-megapixel front facing camera. The company has already announced that the price of the OnePlus 2 will be above $322.
